Soft cover. Zustand: New. Argumentative and deeply researched, Bharat Rising combines the narrative style of journalism and the rigour and discipline of academia. It is as much about the resetting of Lutyens world as it is about a new India shedding its traditional distrust, if not distaste, for the country s civilizational and cultural past.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. Bharat's history is often written as a series of invasions starting with the Aryans knocking on the gates of the subcontinent followed by Central Asian tribes, the Arabs, Afghans, Turks, and finally Europeans. Mainstream history depicts Bharat as a barren land where various races and cultures arrived at different times. This country, we are told, belonged to each one of these migrants and invaders or to none of them. Eminent Distorians: Twists and Truths in Bharat's History challenges this historiography, presenting Bharat's story from its own perspective. It debunks the Aryan invasion theory, calling Vedic and Harappan civilizations two sides of the same coin. It reevaluates Ashoka's legacy and the Nehruvian obsession with his 'greatness'. It reinterprets Bharat's 'golden era' during the Gupta period and sheds new light on the post-Gupta phase. The book argues that Islamic conquest in Bharat faced stiff Hindu resistance until Akbar's diplomatic/matrimonial overtures. When Aurangzeb reverted to confrontation, his empire declined. Contrary to conventional understanding of history, Eminent Distorians explains how the British conquered this country from the Marathas not the Mughals. It also examines the roles of Gandhi, Gandhians, and revolutionaries in ending colonialism. Meticulously researched and cogently argued, the book avoids a Delhi-centric view of history as it highlights significant dynasties such as the Karkotas, Gurjara-Pratiharas, Pallavas, Cholas, and Ahoms, among others.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. This book presents an analysis of the demand for housing and its determinants in the Dimapur town of Nagaland. Dimapur town is a unique representative of urban India and the most populous town in the hilly Nagaland state of North-East India that has been experiencing rapid growth of residential houses and population over the years. The rise in population, indigenous and migrants, consequently increases the demand for residential properties. But price/rent of residential properties varies across space and time depending upon the characteristics of the houses as well as on the preferences of the potential buyers/tenants and their capabilities. As no concrete study has been made on the nature of demand for housing and its characteristics in this hilly town, despite the unprecedented rise in demand for residential property, this study is an attempt to examine the determinants of demand for housing characteristics and factors that influence choice of housing in Dimapur. The study based on a primary survey across the 23 Wards of Dimapur Municipal Council and using appropriate statistical tools provides great insights into the housing demand pattern and factors affecting the same and brings out valuable policy implications.

Depletion degradation and thus management of natural resources have become an important issue worldwide for sustaining human civilization and its progress. Several factors like population growth incidence of poverty unplanned economic activities ownership rights and faulty system of management as well as government policies are identified to be the major reasons for this. The both way linkages between the availability and quality of resources and economic and human development have been established in several writings theoretically and empirically that provide useful insights for the policy formulation and judicious management of resources. Attempts have been made at different national and international fora to raise awareness among the people and formulate ways for the sustainable management and utilisation of resources. In spite of having huge potential resources North East India failed to tap and judiciously use those for the development of the regional economy. However the region has also been observing degradation of such natural resources. The present volume is a collection of good articles highlighting the issues and problems of management of natural resources in connection with the development of economy. Also the linkage between human resources and management of natural resources is analysed along with the analysis of role of society education of the people and traditional knowledge especially in the North East India for the management of resources both renewable and non renewable. A part of the volume is also devoted for the management of tourism and related resources along with the descript.
