Douglas's reply to the lengthy introduction Lawrence had written to "Memoirs of the Foreign Legion", by the American-born traveller/wanderer Maurice Magnus his chief complaint being that Lawrence should have treated Magnus with more fairness. With pink order slip tipped on half title page, giving Douglas's address ("c/o T. Cook and Son") and stating copies were obtainable from the author, price 5 shillings. From the library of the British novelist and poet Barry Cole (1936 - 2014) with his ownership signature under the pink slip. Also an earlier note in pencil 'Forwarded at the request of Mr Reginald Turner' that appears to be in Turner's hand. This is "Reggie Turner' gay novelist and aesthete friend of Wilde (and Norman Douglas) living in exile in Florence at the time.

With the help of his friend, who is in search of hidden treasure in the same island, Gray finds himself in a series of stirring adventures.Not much is known of the authors, however they have another published work titled 'Purloined Prince', of which the press opinions are included to the rear of the work. In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with slight rubbing and bumping to the extremities, heaviest to the spine. Internally, binding loosening in some places but firm. Pages are generally bright and clean. Offsetting to endpapers. Light scattered spotting to the first and last few leaves and fore edge. Very Good. book.

Written by Reginald Hodder and Edgar Turner, who wrote a number of works together, including this novel and 'The Armada Gold'. 'The Purloined Prince' is a romance novel filled with twists and mishaps, narrated by Oxford undergraduate Harry Osborne, set in a number of locations across the world. Illustrated by Irish artist Albert Morrow, with nine plates and a frontispiece. Collated, complete. Bound in the publisher's original cloth. Externally, excellent, withlight bumping to the extremities and the odd small mark to cloth. Spine has darkened slightly. Hinges are a little strained but holding firm. Age toning to endpapers, with the author's ink inscription to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd handling mark.
