Orig. light brown cloth, bevelled boards, brown leather label; neatly recased, hinges strengthened, new e.ps; a little rubbed & dulled, spine faded. Preceded by the 1896 edition in vellum. In a pocket at the end are 3 facsimile hornbooks on oak, ivory and card. Notes state that the 1896 2 volume first edition (containing 7 hornbooks and battledores) is out of print, but that the ivory hornbook is of a type only recently known to Tuer. Loosely inserted is a typed letter dated 1939, from W. Howard Head to Gerald W. Henderson, Sub-Librarian and Keeper of the Muniments, St. Paul's Cathedral, relating to Tuer's book & a brief typed biography note of Tuer is tipped on to an inserted leaf before the half title.
