Tommaso di Giunta occupa nel panorama della letteratura in volgare mediotrecentesca una posizione appartata e per molti aspetti singolare: autore di un prosimetro di contenuto didattico-amoroso, il Conciliato d'Amore, che si propone come summa della precettistica cortese elaborata nel corso di un secolo di attività poetica, di epistole in prosa che traspongono in una lingua fortemente condizionata dall'uso lirico i modelli delle artes dictandi, e di rime di corrispondenza, fra cui spicca per impegno ideologico e tecnico la frottola politica responsiva a Fazio degli Uberti - ma dove non mancano anche esercitazioni sul registro 'comico' -, sembra aver affiancato a tale multiforme attività letteraria quella di ideatore e curatore di una raccolta della propria produzione, promuovendo e sovrintendendo alla realizzazione di un vero e proprio 'libro' personale, basato su un'innovativa strategia di impaginazione dei testi poetici e riccamente miniato, identificabile col codice It. IX 175 della Biblioteca Marciana di Venezia. Quella che qui si presenta è la prima edizione critica completa dell'opera di questo autore poco conosciuto, preceduta da uno studio sulla tradizione manoscritta e corredata dalla riproduzione fotografica integrale del manoscritto marciano. Première édition de ce précieux recueil publié par Tomasso Giunta (1494-1566), réunissant les principaux traités touchant les bains et les eaux thermales composés depuis l'Antiquité classique jusqu'à la Renaissance, formant une histoire complète de la balnéologie tant occidentale qu'orientale. L'ouvrage regroupe les textes de plus de 70 auteurs parmi lesquels on retrouve Aristote, Avicenne, Hippocrate, Galien, Seneque, mais aussi Savonarole, Fuchs, Conrad Gessner, Agricola, etc. Il contient la description d'environ 200 lieux de thermalisme et plusieurs des traités présents dans ce recueil ne sont connus que grâce à cette édition. Le traité de Gessner sur les sources thermales de Suisse et d'Allemagne y paraît pour la première fois. L'édition est illustrée de 5 gravures sur bois représentant le plan d'un bain naturel près de Pozzuoli (f. 287), les machines pour les bains de Fideris en Suisse (f. 295), une très grande vue des bains de Plombières en France (f. 299), une carte de la côte Adriatique dans la zone de Trieste (f. 306 v°) et la représentation d'un bain romain (f. 489 v°). Manque la dernière gravure dans notre ouvrage. On trouve également de jolies lettrines historiées. Belle impression sur deux colonnes en lettres rondes de Tommaso et Giovanni Maria Giunta, fils de Lucantonio Giunta.
