Numerous woodcut portraits (of players and team management) within the text. An important and notoriously fragile football title. Includes early histories of 16 clubs: Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Bury, Derby County, Everton, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Stoke, Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Also with the stamps (pocket, card and cancellation datestamp) of the Melbourne Cricket Club library. Catton also writes of the early days of Association Football (ie, soccer), and of Preston North End and Nottingham.
