Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Until recently, Aboriginal people have been subjected to mainly top-down development, which has proven damaging to communities. Mia Mia Aboriginal Community Development offers an alternative to such approaches, promoting cultural security in order to empower Aboriginal people to strengthen their own communities. The authors take a multidisciplinary approach to the topics of Aboriginal community development, Aboriginal history, cultural security and community studies. This book includes chapters examining historical and contemporary Aboriginal conceptions of community development, and the effects of post-structuralism, post-modernism, globalisation and digital technology. As well as comprehensive analysis of community development in Aboriginal communities, it presents practical strategies and tools for improvement. Each chapter includes practical case studies and review exercises, encouraging active learning and reflection. A valuable resource for tertiary education students, this book features contributions from some of Australia's most eminent Aboriginal scholars, Elders and Aboriginal community members alongside contributions from community development practitioners.

No Binding. Zustand: Good. Original United Press International (UPI) Teletype printout with the news of the death of Winston Churchill. Three news reports torn from original teletype (news wire) printout from 1965. These are the actual reports that would have been received at a teletype machine belonging to a subscribing news agency & represented the state-of-the-art for transmitting news through much of the 20th century. All three are on paper that is 8.5 inches wide -- usually it was fed into the machine on a roll, because the news agency receiving the report would not have known how long it would be. The first report is only 5.5 inches long. It is labeled "UPR2 - First World in Brief - Late News from the United Press International" It reports that Winston Churchill's doctor and family have rushed to his home "four hours ahead of his usual arrival time." The second report is 15 inches long. It includes UPR 158, UPR 159 and UPR 160 (numbers given indicate the order of the reports and so recipients can be assured that they are not missing anything). UPR 158 reiterates that Churchill's doctor arrived unexpectedly as his home and entered without comment. UPR 159 begins "More Churchill Urgent XXX Comment" and adds that Churchill was "clinging to a thin thread of life." UPR 160 gives slightly more information and context about the stroke Churchill suffered on Jan 15th. The date/time codes on these reports are 1/24 at time: JJ129ACS, JJ132ACS, and JJ157ACE (I'm not sure what exactly that means, but it is likely the time 1:29, 1:32 and 1:57. but I'm not sure which time zone. Most likely, that is the time zone where the teletype receiver was -- Churchill died at 8 in the morning on 1/24/65, so these reports may well have been from the hour before his death, received on the east coast of the US, 6 hours behind England. The final report in this collection is about 40 inches long and contains several notifications. The first says simply "F L A S H -- London --- Churchill dead." Time code on this one is JJ238ACS -- The following reports are numbered UPR 5, UPR 6, UPR 7, UPR 8, UPR 9, and UPR 10 -- and reprints of UPR 5 repeated twice for emphasis in between 8 & 9. These reports add detail on his stroke, his family, and the end of his life. It ends with an unrelated update on President LBJ's severe cold and also on the weather conditions in the eastern US ("Rain, sleet, snow.") These reports all came in between 1 and 3 am on the morning of Jan 24th. This longest report was torn in the middle and has been repaired with tape. All of them are blank on the back. These reports would have been received on January 24, 1965 at teletype machines all over the world. These are in good shape, but faded from age and with the impression of a paperclip on the top left corner. Teletype reports like these were mostly disposed of -- the news would be read on the radio or written into television news scripts and the teletype roll paper would be tossed. It was not unusual for people to save 'important' reports as souvenirs, although they were not particularly rare -- they would be printed simultaneously at many hundreds of subscribing new agencies at the same moment -- though to the best of our research, agencies couldn't 'reprint' them later & nothing was saved to any early version of a hard-drive. These reports are all folded down to the size of the smallest of them, about 6.5 inches. Please email with questions or to request photos. If you see a photo beside this listing, please be aware that it's an ABE Stock Photo (whatever that is) and not a photo of this book (although they sometimes get right).
