A Tramp Abroad, first published in 1880, draws upon Twain's travels through Germany, Switzerland, France, and Italy, transforming the conventional European travel narrative through satire, comic exaggeration, cultural observation, and autobiographical incident. Among its celebrated episodes are Twain's mock Alpine adventures, his observations of German language and customs, and his characteristically irreverent encounters with European art and tourism. Contents clean and unmarked, with light, even toning. Bindings remain sound and square; inner hinges slightly tender but holding. Cloth with some marking and shelf wear; corners bumped, with light wear at the head and tail of the spines. Paper spine labels toned. A Very Good copy of the complete two-volume Hillcrest issue.
