unbound. Zustand: very good(+). Excellent signed card, 3.75" x 2.25", during the Spanish American War, whereby he signs: "J. Milton Thompson - Colonel 42nd Infantry - U.S. Vols." Evenly toned and in very good condition. Civil War officer best remembered for his being appointed 2nd lieutenant of the first South Carolina Volunteers. This was the first Colored Regiment ever mustered in the U.S. Service. It's first officers were proclaimed felons and outlaws by Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy, in General Orders #60 at Richmond.
