He supplies a lot of material from various sourced for every building shown on each coin. - Lacking the half-title, title with small old stamp (withdrawn), endpaper with newer bookplate of a German numismatist, binding a little rubbed, spine skillfully rebacked, inside mostly clean, nice.

Fowler, 1866. Bound at end of vol. II, separately paginated, is W. Cunningham Glen's The Law in Relation to the Legal Liabilities of Engineers, Architects, Contractors and Builders, Atchley & Co., 1860. With full specifications for lunatic asylums, prisons, churches, schools, The Houses of Parliament (by Sir Charles Barry, to whom the book is dedicated), houses, kitchens warehouses, shops, railways, bridges, &c. The author, Thomas Leverton Donaldson, 1795-1885, was himself an architect and pioneer of architectural education. He was the first professor of architecture at University College London, 1841-1865. Born in Bedford Square, Bloomsbury, he died in Bloomsbury Place. This copy belonged to the distinguished Lincolnshire architect, James Fowler, 1828-1892, known as 'Fowler of Louth', who was responsible for 210 buildings that he designed or restored. He is known to be the architect for 24 new churches and his work also included 40 vicarages or rectories, 13 schools, four almshouses, a savings bank, a convalescent home and hospital as well as country houses and estate housing.
