Volume 1 contains xxii, [i], 306pp., and 14 illustrations including the illustrated title page, fold-out panoramas, and map of Loch Spyne. Volume 2 contains [vii] including the illustrated title page, 309pp. 7 illustrations, 9 plates illustrating Dr. Traquair's article on extinct vertebrate animals of the Moray Firth area, and a cloth backed fold-out map. There is a 24 page publisher's catalogue at the end of the book. These two volumes are part of a series of works on the vertebrate fauna of Scotland, edited by J.A. Harvie-Brown, and cover the Moray basin. A large part of the first volume describes the physical features of the area, and this is followed by chapters on mammals and birds (to the end of 'Emberizidae'). Volume 2 concludes the section on birds and then covers reptiles, amphibia, extinct vertebrae, and an analysis of the mammalian and avian fauna. The books are in relatively good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the boards. The set took on some water in a 'flooding incident' but are still a good working set. The main effect is slight crinkling to the bottom half of the pages of the first volume and water marks to some of the plates. The spine ends and corners are bumped with some damage to the cloth at the spine ends and on the corner tips. There is a repaired split to the cloth on the top 2" of the front spine edge on volume 1. The contents are tight and clean with a little scattered light foxing. There is some damage around the edges of the front and rear fixed endpapers in both volumes where it looks as if some strips of tape have been removed causing some lifting of the paper. Both volumes have an name and address on the front fixed endpaper and name written on the top edge of the half-title page. PLEASE NOTE: These are heavy books so extra will be needed for shipping to non-UK customers.
