This is a limited edition of 500 copies of which this is number 369, and was…acquired from Sotheran's booksellers, the longest established antiquarian booksellers in the world, founded in 1761. Their discreet sticker is present on the verso of FEP. The slipcase is notably worn, including splits at several fold points, a dampstain to foot, front and rear, and rubbing and wear to cover and edges. Light shelfwear only to dust jacket, relating to the exposed spine (via the slip case); this lightly tanned, with minor wear at the centre of the spine, caused by previous owners extracting the book from the case. Boards are in fine condition, with gilt decorated, dark green pastedowns front and rear. Within, pages are tightly bound and the beautifully illustrated content is unmarked. Thomas explained, "I want to write the first original film operetta, it will be all about a man who loves a bicycle. It covers the whole span of this man's life. He rides penny-farthings, tandems, tricycles, racing bikes - and when he dies at the end, he rides on his bike up a sunbeam straight to heaven, where he's greeted by a heavenly chorus of bicycle bells." Octavo. Illustrated throughout by Leonora Box. Original yellow cloth, spine lettered in gilt, green endpapers with gilt illustrations. With dust jacket. Housed in publisher's slipcase. Bookplate to front endpaper; jacket unclipped, spine toned, crease to middle, nick to foot of spine and head of front wrapper; slipcase rubbed, short closed tear to front foot of opening: a near-fine copy in like jacket.
