This amazing folio of designs is in poor conditio…n, the binding has virtually gone, the front and back boards are grubby and worn, some of the pages are worn, torn and in general terms have been used and abused over time. However all 16 aquatint plates are still ok, and useable for a variety of uses, such as research and design of that period, mounting and framing for picture use, or for rebinding or just keeping as is. The architect Thomas Dearn (1777-1853) practised at Cranbrook in Kent, one of his only known completed designs being a lodge (illustrated as plate 9) at nearby Angley for Sir Walter James, the dedicatee of Designs for Lodges. A reprint of the 1811 edition, this work includes fine aquatint views, with ground plans, for lodges in…a variety of picturesque styles designed to make a pleasant first impression on visitors to country houses. Folio. 20 engraved plates. Bookplate of Robert Dymond. Pencilled ownership signature to front free endpaper. Original brown boards, rebacked to style. Occasional light foxing, lightly rubbed with a few small marks to boards, short split to tail of spine.
