After a couple of years in Essex he moved, in 1954, to Tudor House, Buntingford, Hertfordshire. He initially focused on detective fiction and then widened his business to include 19th and 20th century authors. A forerunner in the field of modern first editions his catalogues featured Beatrix Potter, Kate Greenaway drawings and fore-edge paintings.
