This rosarium was made between 1540-1545 in Bruges. One of the most striking features of this richly illuminated copy is the purple margins on the pages, a distinguishing feature that indicates that this work was in royal possession. This illuminated rosarium was indeed commissioned by either the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V (1500-1558) or his son, Philip II, King of Spain (1527-1598).
