Inscribed, in the elegant calligraphic hand of the illustrator, to the half-title: 'For Alma & Ralph, from Heather & Robin, with love. December, 1964.' Ralph Jeffery was a friend and colleague of Robin Tanner, sharing the career of school inspector.

ONE OF 200 COPIES (from an edition of 226 copies), this unnumbered, printed on Zerkall mould-made paper and signed by author and illustrator (on the half-title), frontispiece and 25 full-page drawings by Robin Tanner, his press device at rear also, pp. 59, 4to, original full-vellum binding by Smith Settle (see below), the backstrip lettered in gilt, laid in a photocopied proof-sheet of Tanner pencil-drawings, cloth and board slipcase, fine. A handsome copy of the last book printed at the Press before its relocation to Wales, a rich evocation - describing their traditions, but enlivened by personal anecdote - of the various notable days in the rural calendar. Though bound as one of the special copies, this is not lettered and does not include the portfolio housing an additional suite of Tanner's drawings.
