In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Author: Toc H (Talbot House Association); Clayton, Rev. Philip ("Tubby" Clayton) Title: Liber Vitae: Being the Roll of Honour of Talbot House, Poperinghe and Ypres, & Others of the Elder Brethren Commemorated in Toc H ? with signed letter referencing limited edition, photograph, and ephemera Publication Details: London: All Hallows Porch Room, Byward Street, E.C., 1928 Condition: Very Good (book); Ephemera Near Fine / Near New Description: A rare and highly coherent Toc H archival grouping centred on the 1928 Liber Vitae, accompanied by original contemporary material directly connected to the Toc H Christmas Service of that year. This exceptional association copy comprises: A near fine / near new Christmas Service Sheet (1928), including "Family Evening Prayer for Toc H," remarkably well preserved An original typed and signed letter dated 19 December 1928 from Rev. Philip "Tubby" Clayton, founder of Toc H, on official headed paper of All Hallows Porch Room, Byward Street, London E.C.3, bearing the "National Scheme for Disabled Men" emblem, addressed to Mrs Macmillan A contemporary black and white photograph clearly depicting Tubby Clayton (face visible) in the company of fellow Toc H members, very likely taken at the 1928 Christmas Service, preserved in near new condition Of particular significance, in the signed letter Tubby Clayton explicitly refers to the accompanying volume as a limited edition, providing rare contemporary confirmation of its status and enhancing both its bibliographic and historical importance as a documented primary source. The coherence of the group is especially notable: the letter (December 1928), service sheet, and photograph all relate to the same event and moment in the life of Toc H, forming a tightly integrated and historically resonant ensemble. The book itself is in very good condition, with firm binding and clean contents. The accompanying ephemera are exceptionally well preserved, with the signature bold and the photograph of excellent clarity. Such complete and internally coherent Toc H groupings?combining signed correspondence, photographic material, and event-specific ephemera?are rarely encountered outside institutional or archival holdings. Comparable complete groupings of this nature are seldom offered on the market. A museum-quality archival ensemble of considerable interest to collectors and institutions concerned with Toc H, First World War remembrance, and interwar Anglican religious history.

Offprint from the PHILOSOPHICAL MAGAZINE, May 1854. 8vo., 6 pp. Later spine of green paper. A few light specks of foxing; single ink library stamp on the first leaf. Presented "From the Author" in ink on the top right blank margin. Fine. [with] Wood, R. [Rupert] Derek. J. B. READE, F.R.S., AND THE EARLY HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY: PARTS I. A RE-ASSEMENT ON THE DISCOVERY OF CONTEMPORARY EVIDENCE. PART II. GALLIC ACID AND TALBOT'S CALOTYPE PATENT. AND, THE INVOLVEMENT OF SIR JOHN HERSCHEL IN THE PHOTOGRAPHIC PATENT CASE, TALBOT V. HENDERSON, 1854. N.p.: [The author], 1971. 8vo., [13] - 83, [239] - 264 pp., [3] leaves of b&w plates. Three offprints from the ANNALS OF SCIENCE, Volume 27, Nos. 1 & 3, March and September, 1971. Staple-bound in orange stiff paper wrappers, with cloth spine, printed label mounted on front cover, erratum affixed to inside cover; a few holograph corrections by the author, with his corrected address label affixed. Fine. The Reverend J. B. Read (1801 - 1870) began his experiments in chemistry at an early age. An 1839 letter which he wrote to his brother, which was quoted by Sir David Brewster in 1847, describes a photographic process involving silver nitrate and gallic acid, which was fixed with "hypo" (sodium hyposulfite). As a result, Brewster asserted that Reade's experiments predated Talbot's caloype patent and were so credited in the early histories. In this letter to Robert Hunt, the photographer and historian who penned the first English book on photography, " A Popular Treatise on the Art of Photography (1841)", Reade stakes his claim as one of the early inventors of the medium. The three offprints by Derek Wood provided an in-depth history of Reade's actual experiments and contributions and correct the prior misconceptions of chronological events. Roosen and Salu No. 9204 and 9205. OCLC does not locate Reade's offprint and lists the George Eastman House, the Public Records Office U.K., and the National Art Library, Victoria & Albert Museum as the only holders of the volume by Derek Wood.
