Small dent noted on front board, spine bumped at head and tail. Dustwrapper has minor stain on front fold, small rips and chips at head of spine, section of wrapper missing at base of spine. Richard Barrett Talbot Kelly served as a Forward Observation Officer with the 52nd Brigade, Royal Feld Artillery from May 1915, when the unit was serving as part of the 9th (Scottish) Divisional Artillery, until he was wounded in early August 1917 at Ypres, by which time his brigade had become an Army Field Artillery Brigade. During his 27 months at the front, Talbot Kelly saw a great deal of the war, often very close to the front line. Talbot Kelly joined his brigade while it was at Festubert, and later that year he saw action at the Battle of Loos, followed by tours of duty around Ypres and in the Ploegsteert sector. He was present on the opening day of the Battle of the Somme near Montauban and returned to the area later that year up by the Butte de Warlencourt. Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. First Edition. Hardback. A Field Guide to the Birds of New Zealand. Slight foxing to end inside covers and edge. Wear to edges of D/J. This is the most modern field guide to the birds of this area. They are an absorbing group, including several of the rarest and most interesting birds in the world, and a great wealth of coastal species. This guide is comprehensive. It covers all the birds of the New Zealand mainland and of the many islands around, from the Kermadec Islands in the north to Macquarie in the south - over 200 species. Then follows information on its voice, habitat, range and nesting habits. All the plates and line-drawings were done specially for this book by Chloe Talbot Kelly of the British Museum in London. One of the fienst bird artists in the world today. Miss Talbot Kelly has lived in new Zealand and studied at first hand the species she has drawn and painted so accurately and beautifully.
