Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. First American edition. 395pp. Duodecimo [19 cm] Blue cloth covered boards with light green ink stamped titles on the spine and front cover. Decorative endpapers. The spine and covers show light edge wear. The front endsheet has a prior owner's ink stamp and name in pen. The text block is only just starting to crack at the rear. The earlier UK edition is cited in the Bleiler checklist and Reginald. This novel, which was later adapted into a film with the same name, is a disaster-themed story in which a geographical upheaval results in parts of Britain sinking under the sea, and turning the Chilterns into an archipelago of very small islands.

In den WarenkorbFirst and only edition. Variant (or possibly colonial) binding of green cloth and black titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A near very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright with a couple of tiny scuffs to the spine. The contents, rather comically with ink stamps applied to the title page and upper margin of chapter one by a previous owner requesting "Will you kindly take care of this book and do not double covers back: PLEASE", the same owner's name stamp to the front pastedown. Aside from this act of vandalism the pages are clean throughout. Complete with the rubbed, nicked and creased colonial issue dustwrapper identifiable only by the circular hole in the middle of the spine removing the British printed publisher's price. Two thirds of the dustwrapper has been backed with blue paper. Very scarce in any shape or form. A lost race novel. (Bleiler; Locke: A Spectrum of Fantasy). In den WarenkorbUncorrected proof copy of the first edition, first printing. Publisher's original grey card covers with black titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with some rubbing and creasing to the extremities. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps, the text block edges are somewhat spotted. Complete with the rubbed, nicked and toned dustwrapper that has a couple of short closed tears and some dust marks. Rare in this form. The proof differs from the published version in several aspects, here the author's name is printed as Ruth Falconer, the publication date is given as 1930; the running head on the first two signatures is 'The Simian Maid' ( on later signatures 'Dream') and the textual differences to at least two pages in which the published version has been shortened. The dustwrapper is identical to that of the published version, albeit trimmed to fit the proof. A science fiction time travel novel in which three contemporary characters are transported back a million years in a dream. (Bleiler; Locke: A Spectrum of Fantasy (this copy)).
