This is the Lilleshall Estate sale catalogue for the 1914 sale ( there was a further sale in 1917) a large folio sized format paperback measuring over 14.5 inches tall, the catalogue runs to 118 pages and is illustrated with photographs, Additionally to the catalogue is the separate map folder which contains nine numbered folding coloured maps of varying sizes. Covering Donnington Wood, Donnington, Muxton, Honnington, Cheswell, Brockton, The Hincks, Lubstree Park, St. George's, Pave Lane, etc. The sale catalogue lists 200 lots, the maps cover lots 1-197, the remaining three lots were The Sutherland Arms in Tibberton, a cottage in Cherrington, and a cottage in Kinnersley. I don't know if a map was produced to cover these three lots which are a good few miles apart from each other. If there was a map produced then it is not present The catalogue covers have some mild marks and a small surface abrasion to top edge of the front cover, some mild corner creasing within. The map wallet has some general rubbing wear and light marking, mild creasing to the maps which are all pictured. A GENERALLY NICE EXAMPLE OF THE 1914 ESTATE SALE CATALOGUE WITH THE RARE MAP WALLET PRESENT.

This is a fascinating and important book, the receipt book for The Trentham Estate in Staffordshire belonging to the Most Noble George Granville, Duke of Sutherland. George Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Duke of Sutherland KG, PC (9 January 1758 - 19 July 1833), known as Viscount Trentham from 1758 to 1786, as Earl Gower from 1786 to 1803 and as the Marquess of Stafford from 1803 to 1833, was an English politician, diplomat, landowner and patron of the arts from the Leveson-Gower family. He was the wealthiest man in Britain during the latter part of his life. He remains a controversial figure for his role in the Highland Clearances. Sutherland sat as Member of Parliament for Newcastle-under-Lyme from 1779 to 1784 and for Staffordshire from 1787 to 1799. The latter year he was summoned to the House of Lords through a writ of acceleration in his father's junior title of Baron Gower The Leveson-Gower family owned extensive lands in Staffordshire, Shropshire and Yorkshire. THE BOOK The book is a large folio format bound in a half leather binding, measuring 44cm by 28cm approx., and contains 173 used numbered pages packed with hundreds of receipts for the year 1835 The whole giving a valuable record of the day to day expenses and revenue for the estate during the year The receipts are divided into sections that include General Management, Rents & Rent Charges, Subscriptions, Game, Gratuities, The Park Gardens Out Stables, Home Farm, Buildings & Repairs, Water Works, Woods & Improvements, Incidents, New Building, Land Tax, Highway Rates, The first 157 pages cover receipts for Trentham Pages 158-167 cover Newcastle And pages 168-173 cover Wolverhampton CONDITION The binding has general rubbing wear, scuffs and scrapes, some wear to the leather on the spine, some bowing to the boards, internally some noticeable dustiness to page edges, most of which will rub off with a soft tissue, there is some child's scribbling in red crayon to two of the rear blank pages, else in good general condition. A VALUABLE RECORD OF THE DAY-TO-DAY COSTS OF RUNNING A LARGE ENGLISH ESTATE IN THE EARLY HALF OF THE NINTEENTH CENTURY Book is large and heavy, around 3.5 kilos packed, This is a large heavy book, shipping costs will be higher than the basic standard quote for a one kilo book.
