Oblong 8vo. Later red cloth with wrappers bound in. Contents entirely in Russian. Fancy wrappers with original reinforcing cloth strips decorated in gilt at inside edges. Front and rear wrappers preserved, rear wrapper has a pattern of leaves of the Swedish oat plant (oves' shvedskiy) and a red wax seal of the company. It is interesting that an economic plant was chosen in that prominent position. Gold ink used extensively on covers, gilt figures on the front cover extend onto the cloth strips. Some areas with lettering affected by rubbing, in particular the first two letters in god' are obliterated. Hundreds of plants for which seeds could be provided are cataloged and illustrated, as well as garden accessories and books and journals. E. Immer and Son were suppliers to the Russian court. The firm was established in Moscow in 1857 by Ernest Johann Friedrich Immer (1825-1897), a native of Mitava (today in Latvia). His son Alexander Ernestovich (1853-1901) expanded the business and established an experimental seed nursery in a plot of land outside Moscow. The firm's seeds were in demand from owners of estates and dachas, and it provided garden plants for the classic parks of Moscow. Note that the common names of the plants in Russian are used throughout, making this a tremendous linguistic source. Priority Mail only to all destinations.
