Entre suas características de virulência está sua capacidade de formar biofilme, e infecções causadas por isolados produtores de biofilme são frequentemente associadas a falhas terapêuticas. O envolvimento de biofilmes em infecções clínicas tem aumentado o interesse na caracterização de genes associados à sua formação. Além disso, torna-se necessário testar a atividade dos antimicrobianos mediante células bacterianas envoltas por biofilme, por serem essas células especialmente resistentes à ação da maioria dos antimicrobianos quando usados em concentrações padrão. Neste contexto, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a capacidade de produção de biofilme de isolados de S. aureus, detectar a presença de genes de virulência possivelmente envolvidos na formação do biofilme e testar a atividade de 04 antimicrobianos, comparando os resultados das atividades nas células de S. aureus em sua forma livre (MIC - Minimal Inhibitory Concentration) e em células envoltas por biofilme (MBIC - Minimum Biofilm Inhibitory Concentration).
