Hardback. Zustand: Good. MONEY & LOVE: An Intelligent Roadmap for Life?s Biggest Decisions is a guide for navigating life?s most consequential and daunting decisions using research-based insights road-tested in a popular Stanford University course.Should I move in with this person? Should I quit my job? When is the ?right time? to have another child? All these life-altering questions at the juncture of money and love can be overwhelming. Often, we answer them either by staying overly rational or by only listening to our ? at times fickle ? hearts. Hardly ever, when faced with daunting questions, do we have the keys to combine both head and heart in a balanced and fulfilling way.Labor economist and Stanford Professor Emerita Myra Strober and social innovation leader Abby Davisson know that in our daily lives money and love are interdependent. Whereas most decision-making guides focus only on one or the other, Money and Love shows us and our loved ones how to consider them jointly using the original, step-by-step 5Cs method:CLARIFY: Consider what you want vs. don?t through self-reflection.COMMUNICATE: Include input from those who will be impacted by your decisions in your decision-making process.CHOICES: Broaden your perspectives to open up your options. CHECK IN: Ask around for advice, guidance, and resources.CONSEQUENCES: Consider the effects of your decisions and how that may impact all aspects of your life.At a time when we are experiencing the most significant shift in work-life balance in decades ? marked by remote work, the Great Reshuffle, and a mass reconfiguring of family dynamics and social/professional networks ? Strober and Davisson?s framework offers simple and effective steps to empower readers to make the best strategic decisions without having to sacrifice their careers or personal lives.…

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. The tumultuous life and career of a woman who fought gender bias on multiple fronts--in theory and in practice, for herself and for us all.Myra Strober's Sharing the Work is the memoir of a woman who has learned that 'having it all' is only possible by 'sharing it all, ' from finding a partner who values your work as much as you do, to fighting for family-friendly policies. You will learn that finding allies is crucial, blending families after divorce is possible, and that there is neither a good time nor a bad time to have children. Both women and men will find a friend in these pages.--Gloria SteinemMyra Strober became a feminist on the Bay Bridge, heading toward San Francisco. It is 1970. She has just been told by the chairman of Berkeley's economics department that she can never get tenure. Driving home afterward, wondering if she got something out of the freezer for her family's dinner, she realizes the truth: she is being denied a regular faculty position because she is a mother. Flooded with anger, she also finds her life's work: to study and fight sexism, in the workplace, in academia, and at home. Strober's generous memoir captures the spirit of a revolution lived fully, from her Brooklyn childhood (and her shock at age twelve when she's banished to the women's balcony at shul) to her groundbreaking Stanford seminar on women and work. Strober's interest in women and work began when she saw her mother's frustration at the limitations of her position as a secretary. Her consciousness of the unfairness of the usual distribution of household chores came when she unsuccessfully asked her husband for help with housework. Later, when a group of conservative white male professors sputtered at the idea of government-subsidized child care, Strober made the case for its economic benefits. In the 1970s, the term sexual harassment had not yet been coined. Occupational segregation, quantifying the value of work in the home, and the cost of discrimination were new ideas. Strober was a pioneer, helping to create a new academic field and founding institutions to establish it. But she wasn't alone: she benefited from the women's movement, institutional change, and new federal regulations that banned sex discrimination. She continues the work today and invites us to join her. …

Hardback. Zustand: Good. A stunning and revelatory oral history of Queen Elizabeth II and her reign. There seems an unquenchable fascination with the British royal family on both sides of the Atlantic, borne out by the popularity of The Crown on Netflix, the spotlight on the Sussexes and Cambridges, and the media attention on the death of Prince Philip. These detailed interviews and insightful accounts range from the very early years of her reign to Prince Phillip's death in 2021. Covering the shocking death of her father and the adjustment required of a newly married couple as well as the turmoil of the later years and her grandchildren's families. This lavishly produced hardback with rarely seen color photos paints a full, detailed and sympathetic portrait of a life lived in service. Featuring interviews from diverse sources from private staff at Buckingham Palace and family friends, to international figures like Nelson Mandela, it contains a broad spectrum of views on Queen Elizabeth II--her story and her personality and how her life has intersected and impacted others. …
