In den WarenkorbFirst edition in book form of this collection of 26 academic papers on the geology, mineralogy, and ore deposits of the Arabian Shield in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, illustrated with photographs, diagrams, and two large colour maps. The papers were originally presented at a Colloquium sponsored by the Deputy Ministry for Mineral Resources in Jeddah in November 1984, and were issued here as no. 29 of the Ministry's Mineral Resources Bulletin. The focus is on felsic (igneous) rocks found at great depths in the Arabian Shield, an exposure of Precambrian crystalline rocks located on either side of the Red Sea, known for its rich mineral content since ancient times. The preface, by the Deputy Minister for Mineral Resources, states that these papers "describe the results of projects which have been undertaken as part of a systematic evaluation of the mineral-resource potential of one of the most important geological environments found in Saudi Arabia" as "felsic plutonic rocks directly or indirectly host most of the Kingdom's resources of tin, tungsten, molybdenum, niobium, tantalum and rare-earth elements, as well as. precious metals" (p. v). The papers discuss the nomenclature, classification, and distribution of felsic plutonic rocks, their evolution in the Arabian Peninsula, with special attention to the areas of Midyan, al-Amar-Idsas, Jabal Tarban, and Bi'r Tawilah, and also include studies of specific types such as the ratamah specialized and alkali-feldspar granites, tungsten, tin, and the Sidarah monzogranite. The papers first appeared in print as a special volume of the Journal of African Earth Sciences, vol. 4, 1986, without the two large colour maps. Quarto. Half-tone photographic illustrations, geological maps and diagrams, 1 folding, 2 geological colour maps (113 x 83 cm, folding into 28 x 19 cm) for northern and southern Saudi Arabia in rear pocket. Text in English. Original white wrappers bound into laminated green boards, device of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to front cover, wire-stitched. Ink stamp and shelf mark of the Geological Institute at Karlsruhe University to title, publisher's paper slip with editors' names pasted on title page. Lower corners bumped, very minor traces of adhesive towards foot of spine, rear pocket a trifle soiled at head, contents clean, couple of very minor marginal creases to one map: a very good copy.
