Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Symplectic and contact geometry naturally emerged from themathematical description of classical physics. The discovery of newrigidity phenomena and properties satisfied by these geometricstructures launched a new research field worldwide. The intenseactivity of many European research groups in this field is reflectedby the ESF Research Networking Programme 'Contact And Symplectic Topology' (CAST). The lectures of the Summer School in Nantes (June 2011) and of the CAST Summer School in Budapest (July 2012) provide a nice panorama of many aspects of the present status of contact and symplectic topology. The notes of the minicourses offer a gentle introduction to topics which have developed in an amazing speed in the recent past. These topics include 3-dimensional and higher dimensional contact topology, Fukaya categories, asymptotically holomorphic methods in contact topology, bordered Floer homology, embedded contact homology, and flexibility results for Stein manifolds.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 544 pp. Englisch.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -The special semester 'Singularities and low dimensional topology' in the Spring of 2023 at the Erd¿s Center (Budapest) brought together algebraic geometers and topologists to discuss and explore the strong connection between surface singularities and topological properties of three- and four-dimensional manifolds. The semester featured a Winter School (with four lecture series) and several focused weeks. This volume contains the notes of the lecture series of the Winter School and some of the lecture notes from the focused weeks. Topics covered in this collection range from algebraic geometry of complex curves, lattice homology of curve and surface singularities to novel results in smooth four-dimensional topology and grid homology, and to Seiberg-Witten homotopy theory and ¿spacification¿ of knot invariants. Some of these topics are already well-documented in the literature, and the lectures aim to provide a new perspective and fresh connections. Other topics are rather new and have been covered only in research papers. We hope that this volume will be useful not only for advanced graduate students and early-stage researchers, but also for the more experienced geometers and topologists who want to be informed about the latest developments in the field.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 236 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The groundbreaking results of the near past - Donaldson's result on Lef schetz pencils on symplectic manifolds and Giroux's correspondence be tween contact structures and open book decompositions - brought a top ological flavor to global symplectic and contact geometry. This topological aspect is strengthened by the existing results of Weinstein and Eliashberg (and Gompf in dimension 4) on handle attachment in the symplectic and Stein category, and by Giroux's theory of convex surfaces, enabling us to perform surgeries on contact 3-manifolds. The main objective of these notes is to provide a self-contained introduction to the theory of surgeries one can perform on contact 3-manifolds and Stein surfaces. We will adopt a very topological point of view based on handlebody theory, in particular, on Kirby calculus for 3- and 4-dimensionalmanifolds. Surgery is a constructive method by its very nature. Applying it in an intricate way one can see what can be done. These results are nicely com plemented by the results relying on gauge theory - a theory designed to prove that certain things cannot be done. We will freely apply recent results of gauge theory without a detailed introduction to these topics; we will be content with a short introduction to some forms of Seiberg-Witten theory and some discussions regarding Heegaard Floer theory in two Appendices.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -The book is a collection of surveys and original research articles concentrating on new perspectives and research directions at the crossroads of algebraic geometry, topology, and singularity theory. The papers, written by leading researchers working on various topics of the above fields, are the outcome of the ¿Némethi60: Geometry and Topology of Singularities¿ conference held at the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics in Budapest, from May 27 to 31, 2019. Both the conference and this resulting volume are in honor of Professor András Némethi, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, whose work plays a decisive and influential role in the interactions between the above fields. The book should serve as a valuable resource for graduate students and researchers to deepen the new perspectives, methods, and connections between geometry and topology regarding singularities.Springer Basel AG in Springer Science + Business Media, Heidelberger Platz 3, 14197 Berlin 348 pp. Englisch.
