Dem Fair Value wird in der Fachöffentlichkeit eine prozyklische Wirkung zugesprochen, welche zu einer Verschärfung der Krise beigetragen haben soll. Es wird untersucht, inwiefern dieser Argumentation zu folgen ist und über welche Wechselwirkungen (Bankenregulierung etc.) eine solche Prozyklizität auftritt. Zum Schluss werden mögliche Alternativen zum Fair Value diskutiert und analysiert. , Abstract: Die Arbeit setzt sich kritisch mit der im Laufe der Finanzmarktkrise immer wieder geäußerten Argumentation, die Bilanzierung zum Fair Value gemäß den IFRS habe zu einer Verschärfung der Krise beigetragen, auseinander. Dazu wird in einem einleitenden Teil zunächst die Konzeption des Fair Values gemäß IAS 39 dargestellt, sowie auf die bestehenden Regelungen von Basel II betreffend die Mindestkapitalquoten von Kreditinstituten eingegangen. Im Folgenden wird das Prozyklizitäts-Argument kritisch unter die Lupe genommen. Dazu wird zunächst die im Vorfeld der Krise zu beobachtende Aufwärtsspirale an den Kapitalmärkten erläutert, bevor auf die in der Krise aufgetretene Abwärtsspirale eingegangen wird. Dabei wird untersucht, inwieweit der Fair Value zu diesen Entwicklungen beigetragen hat. Es folgt ein Abschnitt, in dem die Fair Value-Bilanzierung als solche ganzheitlich kritisch hinterfragt wird. Anschließend wird die sogenannte Cash-in-the-Market Pricing Theorie vorgestellt, welche zu der Erkenntnis kommt, dass es in gestörten Marktumfelden, insbesondere bei illiquiden Märkten, zu Situationen kommen kann, in denen der Marktwert von Vermögenswerten und Schulden keinen geeigneten Wertmaßstab in der Bilanz von Unternehmen mehr darstellt.
