In Universitäten sollen virtuelle Lernnetzwerke die Interaktion zwischen Studierenden erhöhen und Lernerfolge steigern. Die Potenziale Virtueller Communities werden allerdings in vielen Fällen nicht ausgeschöpft, da komplexe Motivationsstrukturen eine systematische Mitgliedersteuerung erschweren.
