340 pages. Hardcover with a dust jacket. INSCRIBED TO A COLLECTOR AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. The development of the M14 took place during the post-World War II-and-Korea period, which saw immense shifts in American Defense policy in the new Atomic age, and, concurrently, colossal power struggles within the hierarchy of the U.S. Defense Department. Shoulder rifle development was small potatoes indeed against such a backdrop, and it was treated as such. An internecine, niggardly and uncertain atmosphere thus dogged the path of the emerging M14 right from the beginning, proving to contain in the end powerful, deadly seeds of destruction and demise, not only for the lightweight Rifle Program, but for the very core of the 174 year-old U.S. Armory System, plus, ultimately the whole traditional Army Ordnance small arms development ad procurement structure itself. The M14 story is fraught with enigmas and great and multitudinous ironies; it is as well a model study of Modern Bigness and its inherent chaos of labyrinthine vertical, horizontal and territorial divivions In the face of every adversity, however, the fundamentals of John Garand's design of turnbolt rifles shine through, when properly appreciated, and the story ends after all on a note of telling vindication for the M14, albeit in a highly specialized role, as a fitting, fighting American work of art. The M14 story has thus to do with much more than just a piece of hardware, it concerns immense power, vaunting ambition and high drama. In all, it is a celebration of the American Way. Lont out of print. The Book is in Near Fine condition with only modest use. The Dust Jacket shows some light rubbing and edge wear. There is one short tear at the top front. Overall the Dust Jacket is about Very Good.

235 pages. Hardcover with a dust jacket. Over 350 illustrations, 141 in color. The book chronicles the history of the FN49, as well as several other self-loading rifles developed by the famous Belgian armsmaking consortium Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre (FN), all of which fell victim ot the onset of wars, or to delays engenderred by war. A very detailed and comprehensive study. Long out of print. Scarce. The Book is a Very Fine As New copy showing no use. The Dust Jacket has some slight crinkling at the base of the spine which is probably a publisher's defect. Otherwise it is in Fine, like new condition. A really nice copy of an important hard-to-find reference at a reasonable price.

243 pages. Hardcover with a dust jacket. Almost 350 illustrations. This book is intended as a companion to the three-volume omnibus title The FAL Rifle, which comprises our original studies titled North American FALs (1979), UK and Commonwealth FALs (1980), and The Metric FAL (1981), initially published as three separate volumse. It is assumed that most purchasers of this new book will already have access to a copy of The FAL Rifle, and therefore we have taken care to ensure that as much as possible of the material herein is new and previously unpublished. New material on various aspects of the FAL rifle has been coming in since shortly after the initial appearance of the The FAL Series. Although received too late for inclusion in the original three volumes, all of this has been carefully archived in contemplation of just such a follow-on book as this. The first part of this book is a new retrospective on the prototypes and ordered models of the FAL as produced by Fabrique Nationale (FN), following the chronological arrangement used in The Metric FAL, which deals with the FAL models of the various countries by inital ordering date. The FAL OREA maintenance manual occupies the central ten chapters of this new book. Very logically laid out with a complete, illustrated breakdown of all the parts within each component group, the manual first establishes a set of inspection standards, and then follows up with detailed repair and replacement procedures for each component, including unbreeching and breeching the barrel. The evolution of the FAL rifle design, is evident throughout the FAL OREA manual. Next we revisit the story of how the FAL was redimensioned and redrawn for production in non-metric oountries. The book concludes with an authoritative retrospective on barrel threads, barrel interchangeability, and official rebreeching instructions for the Canadian C1/C1A1 and British L1A1; an illustration of the investment cast FAL components - including the "type 4" receiver. Very detailed. An excellent study. A Very Fine As New copy.
