Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Leichte Risse. In this poignant volume author/photographer Gottlieb turns his lens to the nation's capital perhaps the most photographed city on earth. Through Gottlieb's remarkable eye, Washington, D.C. is portrayed in all seasons, at all times of day, and in every subtle variation of light. Water on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, for example, eerily suggests the blood of the slain president as it reflects the crimson hues of the rising sun. By contrast, the pageantry of a block of Georgetown row houses is presented as a palette of outrageous colors, from lavender to robin's egg blue to maroon. These photographs provide an interpretation of our nation's capital that is both stirring and joyful, reverent yet luminous.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -1 2 Ann Bostrom , Steven P. French 1,2 Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, USA st The first years of the 21 century brought horrific loss of life and property from earthquakes and tsunamis worldwide. Briefly, the world focused on international disaster prevention, response and recovery. Terrorism loomed large as well, after 9¿11, leading to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security in the United States, and a plethora of related efforts globally. Many of these focus on the built environment. In the U.S. and elsewhere, large-scale infrastructure is stressed; roads, bridges, sewers, and dams built in the last century are deteriorating. Rising population is taxing existing infrastructure more and more as its reliability declines. As a society, we are developing dependencies on new kinds of infrastructure; these too are fragile and may age even less gracefully than sewers and roads. Our infrastructure ¿ including human services, financial, and information ¿ is both increasingly vulnerable and increasingly critical to society. Around the world, we are extending the built environment into incre- ingly fragile natural environments, raising the potential for catastrophe from natural disasters. Social, economic and environmental disparities are also growing between groups, both within the U.S. and between developed and developing countries, putting vulnerable groups even more at risk from extreme events.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 348 pp. Englisch.

Rainbow Revision Draft script for the eighteenth episode of the first season of the 1987-1989 ABC television series, which aired on March 16, 1988. Script labeled copy number 3 on the front wrapper and title page. Created by Steven Bochco and Terry Louise Fisher (the creators of "L.A. Law"), "Hooperman" premiered on ABC on September 9, 1987 and aired for two seasons and fourty two episodes, ending on July 19, 1989. John Ritter stars as San Francisco police Inspector Harry Hooperman, who inherits the rundown apartment building he lives in and a temperamental Jack Russell terrier when his elderly landlady is killed in a robbery, and hires Susan Smith, played by Debrah Farentino, to manage the building, and with whom he becomes romantically involved. In this episode Hooperman enlists the aid of an eccentric pilot in a child runaway case, and becomes concerned that Inspector McNeil's eye problems could possibly put them both at risk.
