Steuart's rare illustrations of discoveries in Asia Minor. Intended originally as part of a larger work, Steuart, not content with the plates as they had been produced, almost suppressed the book entirely. Steuart, accompanied by an Armenian, travelled extensively (he began at Smyrna) making discoveries and copying inscriptions. 'Steuart made his tour in Asia Minor in 1837 . these plates were prepared as part of a project to publish his entire journal which he reluctantly abandoned.' (Blackmer Sale).
