The art historian Hakon Lund tells in volume I about the beginnings of gardening in Denmark, about the very earliest gardens for castles and manors, about the first Danish garden architects of significance, Johan Cornelius Krieger, Nicolas-Henri Jardin and Johannes Wiedewelt and about the transition to the romantic garden around 1780. The art historian Lulu Salto Stephensen's volume II deals with the period up to World War II, a time when new tasks arise in social housing construction, in allotment gardens , summer house areas, and residential gardens as well as in cemeteries and in public facilities.
