Includes a view of a power distillation plant at Shuwaikh, a suburb of Kuwait City, producing no less than 4,5 million gallons of drinking water per day, along with a map indicating the position of Kuwait on the Arabian Peninsula.

Covers fine, interiors fine except for 5 round Kuwaiti stickers applied to the blank ffep possibly relating to its tourism industry. In June 1961, upon achieving independence and in the face of the Iraqi threat, the Amir announced he would establish a Constitution. In July Kuwait was admitted to the Arab League, which sent troops to replace the outgoing British presence. In December, elections were held for a Constituent Assembly, which drafted the Constitution. The Amir signed this into law on 11 November 1962. Elections to the first National Assembly followed on 23 Jan 1963, and on 14 May Kuwait was admitted to the UN (previous efforts in 1962 had been vetoed by the USSR). The Iraqi threat receded with Qassim's death in Feb, and on 4 October Iraq formally recognised Kuwait.
