Softcover. Zustand: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 17 x 24 cm, 160 pages, 30 b/w illustrations. - The book offers a creative and original overview of the SoCal art scene from 1990 to the present. "Inside" examines new initiatives from within the institutional or commercial sectors of the art world; "Outside" discusses developments situated outside of this more sanctioned sphere, whether in alternative spaces, art/music crossovers, or the public domain; "New Locations" takes on innovative art-related activities in sites, such as the Southern California deserts and San Diego-Tijuana border that are relatively remote from the culturally dominant LA basin; "Endpapers" rounds out the book with short presentations by five artists and critics whose independent thinking and constructively targeted polemic has helped shape art-world discourse in Southern California in recent years.

Softcover. Zustand: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 64 pp., 10 ills. - Inspired by the symmetrical, Jeffersonian layout of the American Pavilion' s neo-classical architecture, Ed Ruscha s installation for the 2005 Venice Biennale will comprise ten paintings: five in color, five in black and white, the color paintings mirroring the black and white in both subject matter and placement. Leaving the pavilion's entry rotunda, "C," empty, Ruscha will install a combination of pictures, based on his 1992 "Blue Collar" group, as follows: In the pavilion's lefthand, "D & E" galleries: the original five, 1992 "Blue Collar" pictures, black and white canvases depicting urban landscapes. In the opposite "A & B" galleries: five new pictures depicting an accelerated, aged version of the same urban landscapes, possibly to the point of deterioration, painted in color.

Frances Stark (born 1967) is an internationally acclaimed interdisciplinary artist and writer, whose work centres on the use and meaning of language, and the translation of this process into the creative act. Born in 1967 in Newport Beach, California, she graduated from San Francisco State University in 1991 with a BA in Humanities, and from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in 1993 with an MFA. Stark is a key figure in the Los Angeles art community. She was formerly an Assistant Professor at University of Southern California Roski School of Fine Arts. Words and images are at the heart of her practice, and Stark often takes a personal, auto-biographical approach to shared, universal experiences. Signed by Author(s).

Das vorliegende Buch erscheint anläßlich der Ausstellung "The Fall of Frances Stark" und ist als Ergänzungsband zu Starks "Collected Writings 1993-2003" konzipiert.
