Autorenporträt: Daniel Spitzer, geboren am 3.7.1835 in Wien, gestorben am 11.1.1893 in Meran (Südtirol), Feuilletonist, Satiriker, Erzähler und Jurist. Mitarbeiter der Fliegenden Blätter (München), des Kladderadatsch (Berlin) und der Wiener satirischen Zeitschrift Figaro. Wurde vor allem als Verfasser der humoristisch-satirischen Wiener Spaziergänge (6 Bände, 1869-86), die zuerst in der Presse, dann in der Deutschen Zeitung, ab 1873 in der Neuen Freien Presse erschienen, deren Redaktionsmitglied er war, bekannt. Trat gegen politische und soziale Missstände auf. "Die bisher vorliegenden drei Bände enthalten 194 Feuilletons Spitzers, von denen 111 bisher noch nie in Buchform erschienen sind. Der 1. Band (1865 - 1867) bringt unter anderem Bemerkungen zu den Ereignissen rund um die Schlacht bei Königgrätz, aber auch Reisebriefe aus dem Rheinland; der 2. Band (1867 - 1868) Satiren zum Konkordat und Reisebriefe aus Slovenien; der 3.
