(2) Entwicklung von Stabilisatoren: die Publikation dokumentierte Methoden zur chemischen Modifikation von Polymeren, um deren Abbau zu verzögern. Dies war entscheidend für die Entwicklung von Lichtschutzmitteln und Antioxidantien, die heute standardmäßig in fast jedem Kunststoffprodukt enthalten sind. (3) Prüfstandards. Die Beiträge des Symposiums am halfen dabei, standardisierte Testverfahren (wie die beschleunigte Bewitterung) zu etablieren, mit denen Hersteller die Wetterbeständigkeit ihrer Produkte bereits im Labor prüfen konnten.
