Fred Dickson, some light foxing throughout o/w good condition, John Murray, London, 1827. *a scarce military item with interesting provenance. Additional provenance: from the library of George Frederick Dickson (1787 - 1859). Born in Manchester, he eas the grandson of Sarah Willatt, an early female entrepreneur and postmistress. In 1807, at the age of twenty, he went to Buenos Aires where he enjoyed great commercial success. A keen botanist, he collected and discovered new plants and sent seeds to the London Horticultural Society. In 1821, he moved back to England, to Liverpool, bringing with him Carlos, a black servant and liberated slave. He continued to operate banking and commercial interests in Argentina and in 1835 moved to London. He served as 'Consul General for the Republic of the United States of Rio de la Plata' [Argentina]. He and his family lived in Hanover Terrace, Regent's Park where he died in 1859. ILLUSTRATED (illustrator).
