Previous owner's name of "Mrs Brown" in pencil to top margins of first page of introductory sections/contents. Text is bright and clear throughout with only very occasional light scattered spotting. Very Good Minus Condition. 36 volumes, complete with the three supplemental indices bound in Volume 36. 33 of the volumes are in the original brown calf leather, with all of the front and rear hinges cracked but intact. Spines have gold lettering on red background with five bands. S…pine ends show various stages of wear. The volume number is in gold on a black medallion with the medallion is missing from 10 of the spines. Three of the volumes have been rebacked in half calf leather with marble boards.The spines on these volumes say "Sowerby's English Botany" instead of the "English Botany" on the rest of the books. The volume numbers on these are Roman numerals, as opposed to the Arabic numerals on the rest of the set. Text blocks are dusty on the top edge, with the other edges age toned. All text blocks are not cracked. There is light foxing throughout the volumes. There are a few volumes with pencil notations on the free front end paper and some of the text pages have offsetting from the facing print. Volumes XVI to XVIII have previous owners bookplate on inside front cover. The set has 2592 color plates and corresponding descriptions. Each volume's contains three indices; Index of English Names, Systematical Index and Alphabetic Index. Volume 36 contains a master index of all three types.
