[] Seated figure to the knees, facing the spectator; in black gown and D.D. Hood. | Presented to the College by Old Etonians. (Provost's Dining Room.)' Responding to Harington's congratulations, Hornby writes that it is 'a great pleasure to have such kind words from an old friend'. He is 'almost overwhelme by the kindness of friends in this matter of the portrait. We had a very pleasant gathering on Founder's Day, and all went off well.' He continues: 'The portrait is thought to be a very good one. So all may [sic] friends say.' He hopes that Harington will 'come and judge of it' for himself. 'Whenever you are coming up to London, I shall be very glad if you will pay us a visit.' From the Harington family papers. The Harington's had strong connections with Eton, several members being educated there. The eleventh baronet's unpublished reminiscences of his time there are offered separately.

Each letter 1p., 12mo. Both in fair condition, lightly aged and worn. Each in a different secretarial hand, both headed 'R v Corbett'. The first letter reads: 'The accused has been sentenced to 7 years penal servitude. Mr. Lawrence mentioned to the Judge privately the question of postponing sentence but the latter would not adopt the course suggested.' The second reads: 'I will certainly instruct Lawrence as to the circumstance to which you refer so that your application may be made to the Court'. From the Harington papers.

Chalmers discussed Harington with Edge, who would be glad to see him 'any time at the India Office'. Chalmers encourages Harington to arrange the meeting, as Edge 'is an exceedingly good fellow & was far the best of the Indian C. J's - | He suggested that you should get a testimonial from A. T. Lawrence'. Sir Richard Harington (1861-1931) of Ridlington, 12th Baronet, was appointed a Puisne Judge in the High Court of Justice at Fort William in Bengal in 1899, and served in that capacity until returning to England in 1913.
