He had intended to call on her the day before, but was prevented by the weather. He 'consoled' himself 'by supposing that I should meet you at Mr Rogers's where I dined, but where you were not.' Comments that his correspondent's note 'is not in your handwriting, moreover it is written by an inexperienced secretary for she began "My dear Mr E" & then scratched out the my finding it was an innovation in the official form.' He has received a letter 'from the new Director [of the 'school of design'] who is to be in town on Friday. Mr Ker will think himself privileged to give you an account of the invitation of his new protege'.
