In this era of globalization, education policy is no longer an exclusive matter of the nation state, and it becomes a concern for an international agenda. According to Heyneman, with an increased concern of international agencies such as the World Bank, national education policies, in one way or another, are inevitably framed by global actors. As seen by Molla, more than at any time before, international agencies and donors make use of diverse mechanisms to manipulate policy directions in aid beneficiary countries. Sub-Saharan African countries are resource dependent on external agencies through aid, grants or loans; and this fact often forces them to follow the policy decisions taken by their donors.In this essay, an attempt is made to discuss the World Bank's approach, its strengths and limitations with regard to education sector policy interventions in Sub-Saharan Africa focusing on the Ethiopian context. In view of this, the paper briefly juxtaposes Ethiopia's political, economy and socio-cultural context with that of the World Bank's ideology and orientation. Based on this, reflection and criticisms have also been forwarded. Finally, a conclusion is drawn and the resulting implications are presented.The essay argues that international policy actors, mainly the World Bank, tend to impose policy recommendations and reform programs to Sub-Saharan Africa regardless of the context of the particular nation states. Moreover, the paper intends to stress that although the World Bank asserts pursuing a comparative orientation in its policy studies and intervention, its practices in low-income countries witnessed that the Bank often infused ideologies which might have worked well in other part of the world. More specifically, I argue that controversial neo-liberal policy prescriptions were enforced in Ethiopia's national education sector without having aligned them with the country-specific situations.…

The overall objective of the research was to develop information extraction system for the Amharic vacancy announcement text. 116 Amharic vacancy announcement texts which contain 10,766 words were collected from the Ethiopian reporter newspaper published in Amharic twice in week. For this study, nine candidate texts are selected from Amharic vacancy announcement text, these are organization, position, qualification, experience, salary, number of people required, work agreement, deadline and phone number. The experiments have been carried out on each component of a system separately to evaluate its performance on each components, this helps us to identify drawbacks and give some clue for future works.The experimental result shows, an overall F - measure of 71.7% achieved. Based on this, the researcher concentrated on transferred technology in the academic years 2012 and 2013 E.C. and employed a survey methodology to achieve the study's goal. A total of 57 trainers and 8 technology team members were chosen for this research to transfer and facilitate technology. From them 81.5% were male and 18.5% female. In addition, 57 firms were chosen to acquire technology from trainers. Data was collected through questionnaires and observation. To emphasize the link and variance of the variables, the data collected through the questionnaire was analyzed using frequency %, mean and standard deviation. To complement the quantitative statistics, the information gathered through open ended questionnaires was evaluated qualitatively. The findings suggest that trainers' problem-solving methods on technology transfer are based on their knowledge of how to deal with technology. Although the trainers have a basic understanding of technology, the results show that additional understanding is required. Aside from that, the findings examine knowledge and skills in value chain analysis. The mean value was 3.38 and the standard deviation was computed as 1.07, which is larger than one, implying that the data was spread out over a wide range of values, implying that respondents had a variety of alternatives when it came to this particular variable. There are no widespread surveys on the college's suitability for technology development and transfer. In the previous two years, 85.2 percent of trainers produced and transmitted technology for small businesses, but no single technology has been duplicated or made available to the general public by SMEs. The transferred technology is not being imitated by SMEs, but the results demonstrate that the enterprises are interested in technology transfer. The majority of the trainers believe that the transferred technology has a functional difficulty, lacks a nice physical look, and does not match the planned goal.…

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Biology - Micro- and Molecular Biology, grade: 4, Arba Minch University, course: Medical Microbiology, language: English, abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of crude extracts of four medicinal plants (A. pirottae, G. schweinfurthii, K. begoniifolia, and U. leptocladon), against ATCC and MDR clinical isolates of bacteria.Based on ethnobotanical data, four plants were collected from different areas of South Omo through several field trips followed by taxonomic identification. Leaves (A. pirottae, K. begoniifolia, and U. leptocladon) and root (G. schweinfurthii) parts of plants specimens were subjected to extraction process using six different organic solvents through maceration and subsequent filtration. The resultant crude extracts were screened for primary in vitro antibacterial activity against ATCC bacterial strains, using agar well diffusion assay. The plants that showed the highest activity indices were further screened against MDR bacterial isolates. MIC was performed on the most active plant extract. Results of antibacterial activities were analyzed using statistical software, SPSS for Windows version 20. The antibacterial activity significantly varied among the plant species, type of solvents used for the extraction and strains of bacteria tested. Ethyl acetate and ethanol was highly effective for extracting antibacterial principles, irrespective of plant species. The results of primary screening revealed that two plants (K. begoniifolia, and U. leptocladon) were highly active against ATCC strains. The results of the extended screening showed that, among the two plants, ethyl acetate extract of U. leptocladon efficiently inhibited the growth of MDR bacterial isolates. The MIC values of U. leptocladon were varied in inhibiting MDR bacteria tested.The overall findings of this study demonstrated that all the four plants have antibacterial activities in varying degrees. U. leptocladon showed the widest and highest spectrum of antibacterial activities as per agar well diffusion assay and analysis of MIC. However, further ongoing and in-depth studies are mandatory in order to prove and understand in vivo efficacy, mechanism of action and toxicological profile of these plants.In many regions of the world, particularly Ethiopia, the vast majority of traditional medicines are plant based. However, these plants were neglected and scarcely explored. Therefore, screening of plants used in traditional medicine could provide the chance of discovering antimicrobials that fight against infectious diseases.…
