Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very good. W. P. Wass (illustrator). x, 124 Pages. Illustrations. Signed and dated by the author on the fep. Sinke is a decorated veteran who did tours in Vietnam and received five Purple Hearts. THE LAW OF COMBAT, with which the book begins, was written in October, 1966 aboard the hospital ship the USS Repose, where the author was recovering from gunshot wounds. The remaining pieces in Part I were written in Vietnam from 1966 to 1971. The pieces in parts II and III were written between 1968 and 1983. THE RECONCILIATION, which concludes the book, was written the day after the dedication of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. The author says much about war in general and about the Vietnam War in particular. He shows also that there were indeed redeeming facets of which both the veteran and the country have true cause to be proud. In its essence, the book obtains as a gripping portrait of the human heart in the crucible of war. This work was reviewed by Capt. W. T. DeCamp, USMC, in the Naval War College Review, Vol. 39, No. 1 (JANUARY - FEBRUARY 1986), pp. 121-122 (2 pages). Presumed First Edition, First printing thus.
