The simplest memory game is the nursery rhyme. In the rhymes' structured form, the lines of prose offer an insight of the basic truths of human nature and humanity. It is within this uncharted space where Japanese artist Koji Shimizu chose to locate his collaged sculptural installations. Exploring the locations of cultural identity and alienation, Shimizu presents a playful representation of these multiple histones. These mischievously entertaining drawings and sculptural objects present a faceted view of the worlds that it attempts to negotiate, closely operating like a nursery rhyme. Shimizu, unlike many members of his urban-bound generation, grew up outside the metropolis of Tokyo, Japan. Raised in a multi-generational household of farmers, Shimizu's grandparents played a pivotal role in forming the artist's perseption of events in the Second World War. Shimizu utilizes these detailed accounts and intertwines his own subjective history into the social and collective fabric.
