( Manuscript Hand Drawn Map ) TITHE MAP of KEMBERTON PARISH in the COUNTY OF SALOP 1880 by John Whitfield, Land Agent & Surveyor Shifnal Shropshire July 1878 Hand drawn in 1878 by John Whitfield, Land Agent & Surveyor Shifnal Shropshire, this is a manuscript Tithe Map of the Parish of Kemberton near Shifnal in Shropshire, the plan states it was a copy of an earlier Tithe map, which was one most likely dated 1840, as that date also appears on the plan. The plan is dated 1880 in the title, but John Whitfield who drew the map dates it July 1878 under his name. The map measures 33.5 inches by 25 inches approx., mounted on linen, and is centred on the village of Kemberton, taking in land owned by the trustees of Miss Slaney and Mr Holmes, also Kenyon Slaney, and Captain W. S. Kenyon Slaney, also The Madeley Wood Colliery, Lord Sudeley, Mr Bradley, etc. CONDITION The map is showing obvious signs of wear with heavy creasing, some splits to the paper, wear at edges, linen very grubby to reverse else an acceptable example of this manuscript map. The map will be posted rolled in a tube, anyone living local to Telford is welcome to collect in person.

In den WarenkorbAccording to his long obituary in The Times, 13 June 1929 ('Central Asian Politics'), Yates's 'studies of the affairs of the Indian borderland, Central Asia, and the Middle East were probably excelled by few retired officers of the Indian Army in wealth of detail and personal knowledge of events and personalities spread over the last half-century'. See also his long entry in Who Was Who. The three items are in fair condition, on aged and worn paper with rusting from paperclip. They carry the stamp and docketing of the Society. The card - signed 'A. C. Yate (Lt. Col.)' - concerns 'the corrected proof of my lecture on "The Indian Army"'. Both letters (totalling 3pp., 12mo) concern the manuscript of a lecture he proposes giving - following 'a little discussion' at St John's Gate - on the work of the Indian branch of the Red Cross, as 'the Society of Arts meditate a lecture on the Ambulance Work of the War'. Accompanying the three items is a Typed Letter Signed (1p., 4to) to Wood from Major W. O. Prichard, Chief Secretary, The St. John Ambulance Association, 28 December 1916, on its St John's Gate letterhead, sending, at Yate's request, a copy of the annual report of the Indian Branch, which shows 'what wonderful work has been done by the representatives of the Association in India, both in connection with the war and among the civil population'.
