Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Set in New Jersey from 1978 to 1989, the story follows Jimmy Bonaparte, an angry young man trying to turn his American Nightmare into his personal American Dream. He takes care of his invalid grandmother while constantly exchanging insults with her. During the course of the eleven years we follow him, he marries his high-school girlfriend, Annie, because she's pregnant, and he's content, in his bitter way, to stay with her. Over time, however, she outgrows him and leaves. The only people for whom he shows much affection are a cocktail waitress from a comedy club and his little girl, Wendy, who helps to mellow Jimmy's temperament as she gets older. Running through Jimmy's life is his unchanging routine at the supermarket where he works with his friend Arturo, and his constant efforts to become a famous stand-up comedian. His routine changes little in eleven years and the stories he relates are violent, troubled and rarely funny-a fact he fails to see. Jimmy keeps trying to get the big break. By the end of the play, there is a possibility that Jimmy will turn his attention to Wendy and finally let go some of the misplaced venom that has filled his life.

The middle bottom of the back cover has a minor tear. The dust jacket is now protected with a clear cover. Interior with minor signs of wear and in good condition overall.; "Serious thought about this exhibition began in conversations between Laurence Sickman and Sherman Lee some five years past. Their enthusiasm for a joint exhibition of the Chinese paintings owned by the two museums was quickly shared by the curators, Wai-kam Ho (Cleveland) and Marc Wilson (Kansas City), and by the trustees of both institutions. The compelling reasons for such an enterprise were as follows. The number and quality of Chinese paintings involved were substantial and excellent. Furthermore, the two collections complemented each other in a most meaningful fashion - Kansas City's particular strength in early paintings being matched by Cleveland's large holdings in works created after the Sung Dynasty. Even within those areas where each collection had good representation, the particular artists or subjects can be seen to be complementary. The resulting display of two hundred and eighty-two works would provide, almost literally and relatively completely, a rich survey of the history of Chinese painting from 300 BC to AD 1850 - hence, the "fancy title": Eight Dynasties of Chinese Painting." excerpt from the preface by Ralph T. Coe, Director Nelson Gallery-Atkins Museum and Sherman E. Lee, Director The Cleveland Museum of Art.
