Third printing of the first American edition (the first was in the same month). ix, 410pp., 9-page publisher's catalogue, frontispiece and 3 other black and white illustrations by Claude Shepperson. Samuel Rutherford Crockett (1859-1914) was a prolific Scottish novelist. The Cherry Ribband is set in 18th century Scotland, and tells the story of a young woman named Ellie who is torn between two the wealthy and arrogant Colin of the ruling class, and the poor but noble Sandy, a sailor from her hometown. As she struggles to choose between them, she must navigate the social and political tensions of her time and confront the consequences of her decisions. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with red titling and a gold and green wreath design on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling to the boards. The spine ends are bumped and the titling on the spine is faded. The contents are tight and clean with a small patch of thinning to the front free endpaper where a name has probably been erased.
