Boards a little rubbed and rounded on corners and spine ends, a few mild marks, spine moderately sunned, mottled and worn around leading front and rear edges. Text block edges toned. Front hinge cracked, endpapers browning, else very mild toning on first and last few pages. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper. A nice, solid and robust copy of this mammoth and authoritative work. Volume V of the Cambridge Natural History series.

Pages are lightly foxed throughout, but are otherwise clean and unmarked with black and white illustrations throughout. Previous owner's signatures and stamps on the endpapers and the half-title page of of volume 2. The endpapers of volume 1 are beige and darkened. The endpapers of volume 2 are black and lightly scuffed. Inner hinges are worn. Page edges are darkened, smudged, and lightly foxed. Gilt on the head edges. Bound in green cloth with gilt titles and borders. The binding of volume 1 is heavily scuffed and darkened, scratched and stained. Some small bookworm holes in the binding of volume 1. The binding of volume 2 is lightly scuffed. The binding of both volumes are worn and bumped around the edges. Faded on the spines. G. Book.
