Februar 1907 in London; gestorben 31. März 2003 in Toronto) war ein britisch-kanadischer Mathematiker. Sein Arbeitsgebiet war die Geometrie, unter anderem beschäftigte er sich mit regulären Polytopen. Coxeter besuchte die King Alfred School in Hampstead und die St George's School in Harpenden. Er studierte am Trinity College der Universität Cambridge, wo er den akademischen Grad eines Ph. D. erwarb. Coxeter galt in englischsprachigen Ländern und darüber hinaus als führende Autorität in klassischer Geometrie, worüber er bekannte Lehrbücher verfasste. Er betrieb geometrische Forschung zu einer Zeit, als die Geometrie allgemein als abseits des mathematischen "Mainstreams" gelegen betrachtet wurde. Besonders bekannt waren sein Buch und seine Arbeiten über reguläre Polytope der verschiedensten Art. Er interessierte sich auch für Unterhaltungsmathematik, besorgte die Neuauflage des Klassikers von W. W. Rouse Ball Mathematical Recreations and Essays und schrieb über den mathematischen Hintergrund der Graphiken von M. C. Escher. Coxeter befasste sich zudem mit kombinatorischer Gruppentheorie und der Theorie der Lie-Algebren. Von 1948 bis 1957 war Coxeter Herausgeber des Canadian Journal of Mathematics. Er war auch Gastprofessor an Universitäten in Großbritannien, den Niederlanden, Italien, Österreich und den USA. William Oscar Jules Moser, genannt Willy Moser, meist W. O. J. Moser zitiert, (* 5. Januar 1927 in Winnipeg; gestorben 28. Januar 2009 in Montreal) war ein kanadischer Mathematiker, der sich mit kombinatorischer Geometrie und Gruppentheorie befasste. Moser war Sohn österreichischer Emigranten, die vor seiner Geburt in den 1920er Jahren nach Kanada einwanderten. Er studierte Mathematik an der University of Manitoba mit dem Bachelor-Abschluss 1949 und an der University of Minnesota mit dem Master-Abschluss 1951. Danach ging er an die University of Toronto, wo er 1957 bei H. S. M. Coxeter promoviert wurde. Aus Teilen der Dissertation entstand das gemeinsame Buch mit Coxeter über kombinatorische Gruppentheorie. Er veröffentlichte mehrere Bücher über Probleme der diskreten Geometrie. Er befasste sich unter anderem mit dem Themenkreis des Satzes von Sylvester und Gallai. 1973 bis 1975 war er Präsident der Canadian Mathematical Society, deren Distinguished Service Award er 2003 erhielt. 1961 bis 1970 war er Herausgeber des Canadian Mathematical Bulletin und 1981 bis 1984 Associate Editor des Canadian Journal of Mathematics.
