It was noted for its publication of photography and artwork (in 1891 L'Illustration became the first French newspaper to publish a photograph, and in 1907 was the first to publish a colour photograph). During the Second World War L'Illustration was directed by Vichy collaborationist Jacques de Lesdain, and as a result was shut down following the 1944 Liberation of Paris.…
