Green buckram with red emblems. Gilt titling on the spine. Book is in very good condition. This book could be from as early as 1855 when they moved to Fulton street, but the only other copy available of this book dates it at circa 1885, so going to go with that date. F.W. Devoe & Co. was a prominent New York-based manufacturer of paints, pigments, and artists' supplies during the 19th century, with origins tracing back to 1754. The company was founded by William Post, who began selling paint on Manhattan's East River waterfront. Over time, the business evolved and expanded significantly, becoming a key player in the American paint industry. However, the items in this book tend to be more related to surveying and building instruments. Very historical content; belongs in a museum or archive! (BR) Shelf 322.

First Edition. Large, slim octavo (27cm.); publisher's brown cloth over blue textured paper, upper cover lettered in gilt; [4],122pp.; steel-engraved text illus. throughout. Boards a bit rubbed and slightly bowed, small spot of glue residue at top fore-edge corner of upper cover, original gilt quite dulled, though Parisian distributor's gilt-lettered cancel still brilliant, contemporary American ownership inscriptions to front endpapers. Overall Very Good, internally fine. Quite an attractive and uncommon trade catalog issued by the still-extant microscope manufacturer. This issue not separately catalogued in OCLC, COPAC, or KVK as of January, 2020.
