So steht also die Frage im Raum, ob Schnelligkeit durch Talent bestimmt wird oder durch Trainingsleistungen erzielt werden kann. Um einen langfristigen Leistungsaufbau in dieser Hinsicht realisieren zu können, müssen die Grundlagen jedoch bereits im Kindes- und Jugendalter geschaffen werden. In dieser Arbeit wird aus diesem Grund besonders auf die Entwicklung der Schnelligkeit in dieser Lebensphase eingegangen. Es stellt sich im Leistungssport zudem die zentrale Frage, inwiefern Schnelligkeit ein Talentkriterium ist. Dazu wird darauf eingegangen, inwieweit Schnelligkeit als Voraussetzung für Bestleistungen gilt. Viele Komponenten rund um den Begriff Talent sollen deshalb genauer betrachtet werden und in Zusammenhang mit der Trainierbarkeit von Schnelligkeit gebracht werden. In so ziemlich jeder Sportart spielt Schnelligkeit eine wesentliche Rolle und entscheidet über Sieg oder Niederlage. Fest steht allerdings auch, dass die Gewichtung von Schnelligkeitsmerkmalen in jeder Sportart anders gestaltet ist und so z.B. die Sprintfähigkeit beim Fußball einen höheren Stellenwert erlangt als beim Ausführen eines Kopfstandes. In der Trainingspraxis wird der Verbesserung der Schnelligkeit jedoch meist zu wenig Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt. Doch dabei sind es gerade schnelle Aktionen und Reaktionen, die entscheidende Faktoren für Hochleistungen sind.
