The first and second volumes published in 1897 and 1901 respectively, and the lexicon of abbreviations in 1897. All first editions. A good hardback with textured cloth and vellum spine and corners, with gilt decoration. Covers are stained and worn with some of the staining reaching the front and rear pastedowns. The vellum is soiled and darkened with age. An unusual binding. The contents are firmly bound inside. Previous owner's bookplate to the first pastedown - Canon Raymond Samuel Foster, The College of Saint John The Evangelist, along with a further owner's signature. The text is very good throughout, with uncut edges as issued. Some light age spotting, particularly to titles and first few pages, but a very clean reading text overall. Text in German and Hebrew. 3 title pages - x foreword for Vol 1 and iii-vi foreword for Vol. 2, followed by 447pp. Then, reading from rear of book; the Lexicon of Abbreviations; Title + 1pp +129pp + 1pp. Dimensions: Approx 260mm high x 185mm wide x 36mm deep.
